November at Cleobury Country Centre

cleobury country farmers market
November Farmers Market in Saint Mary’s Church, Cleobury Mortimer

Not quite sure where November is going but it feels like we’d no sooner started it and suddenly, it’s ending! As I write it’s the 20th and I saw a house in Cleobury with its Christmas tree up in its window!!!! What on earth is that all about!

It’s been a steady month at the centre in many ways….

The courses have trundled along nicely, and we launched a new course in Food Labelling, which was well taken up. This follows new food regulations which come into effect on 13th December 2014 whereby all food labels must contain a list of all the allergens present in the product. This could be quite a problem for some, so the course was aimed at those retailers who might be affected, and it was well received and hopefully made more people aware of the new laws.

We also launched “Into Work” Transformation Challenge, in association with Shropshire Housing. On a Friday morning, those that are 52 weeks or less out of work can drop into the centre and get help accessing local vacancies via our Local Jobs board, get help navigating the Universal Jobs website, and help with things like CV’s and interview techniques. This is a free service aimed at helping individuals get back into employment and increase their personal and social wellbeing. Call the centre for more information 01299 272 300.

Sue has nearly finished contacting everyone regarding the Cleobury Country Trade Card and new website, so if you’ve not spoken to her yet, get in quick because by the 21st November, it’ll be too late! Having said that, the Trade Card is looking really good with more businesses than ever taking up the opportunity to have a listing and/or an advert. William at Crystal Thought will then move heaven and earth, to get it printed and ready for release on the 5th January 2015!!

The Cleobury Country Farmers Market cranked itself up for the build up to Christmas this month, with a record number of stalls attending (21) and the church looked fab with all the stalls displaying their wares!

We offered local new business “Sensu Teas” the opportunity to show off their product via our sponsored business stall, and they offered free tea tastings all morning, which was just what was needed on a chilly morning! We saw 199 visitors during the morning and this is becoming the average now but we are hoping that next month (December 20th) might bring a bumper number of visitors!

Finally, I’d like to thank Gary Dimmock from Wovlerhampton University, who came to our Business Networking evening to explain about The Eureka Moment Project, and how it can help new and existing businesses. Its great to be able to show businesses that there is help out there! If you’d like any information from the evening please get in touch and we can forward his presentation.

I currently have my thinking cap on to try to think of a “jolly” for the christmas meeting, which is on 17th December. I’d be grateful of any suggestions, as it’s nice to get out an visit a local business! Let me know if you have any brain waves, otherwise wait for the networking reminder email.
